The Virginia Historical Society and Museum of Virginia History offer the most comprehensive collection of Virginian art in the world and feature the largest permanent exhibition of Virginia artifacts. At their center is "The Story of Virginia, an American Experience," the State's only collection representing all of Virginia history from prehistoric times to the present. This 10,000 square-foot display includes more than a thousand objects such as a 17th-century dugout canoe, a Conestoga wagon, an 18th-century smokehouse and kitchen and 1918 streetcar. Virginia's past is delightfully portrayed using a multi-media production of videos, story phones, computer games and other interactive components.
